NRK adds three Shotoku SmartPed systems and upgrades existing floor rail systems.

Sunbury, UK – 10 July 2025Shotoku Broadcast Systems has announced that NRK, the Norwegian state broadcaster and long-term customer, have gone on air from newly renovated Studios 5 and 7 featuring under-floor rail systems upgraded to Shotoku’s full SmartRail specification. Shotoku is a leading international manufacturer of high-quality, easy-to-use, and reliable robotic and manual camera support systems.

NRK was one of the first customers to use Shotoku’s original rail system in 2015 with an innovative underfloor design for a fully robotic studio.  Since then, the studio has been in daily use and NRK decided that time was right upgrade the rail systems to the latest SmartRail hardware and add three X/Y roaming SmartPed’s to studio 7 to complement the existing floor rail system.

“When the decision was made to update our on-air look and invest in new technologies, we were pleased to find that Shotoku could upgrade the rail systems we already owned to the latest specification. This allowed us to use more of the budget on robotic pedestals with SmartPed being the obvious choice for Studio 7. We also know we are in good hands when support is needed based on years of experience working with Shotoku” said Aksel Helgheim, Head of the upgrade project.

James Eddershaw, MD of Shotoku Broadcast Systems said, “We love it when a long-term customer like NRK trusts us to upgrade their existing systems and also augments their studios with products like SmartPed and our new V3 TR-XT control systems.”.
